2026.12 - Release Notes

Executive Summary

LMS integration extends to automatic account creation on a student's first launch and to course linking that offers only delivery types the LMS can actually deliver. AI Sources accepts Word and plain text documents alongside PDFs and shows the processing status of every upload, while Sentinel-enabled exams now block launches from an outdated lockdown browser and block relaunches after a session has ended. Items requiring CSM coordination are noted throughout.

New Features & Enhancements

šŸ”— LMS Integration

First-Time Account Creation on LMS Launch

Students launching a Webassessor assessment from their LMS for the first time can now have an account created for them automatically, so they reach the assessment without a separate registration step and without the client pre-loading a roster.

  • The identity details supplied by the LMS at launch are used to create the account in the background, and the student lands directly in the assessment

  • The account is permanently linked to the LMS identity, so later launches sign the student straight in

  • Only students are created automatically; a launch identified as an instructor or an administrator is not

  • Clients who prefer to manage accounts themselves can leave the option switched off

Action Required: Automatic account creation is opt-in per LTI configuration and is off unless enabled. Contact your CSM for guidance.

šŸ›”ļø Account Integrity & Recovery

Email Verification in the Candidate and Administrator Profiles

Completing the email verification capability introduced last release, verification status is now visible on the candidate profile and in the administrator's view of a candidate, and support staff can resend a verification link without involving the candidate.

  • A verification status indicator appears alongside the primary and secondary email addresses on the candidate profile

  • Administrators see the verification state and the related verification activity on the candidate profile, so an unverified account can be identified while a support enquiry is being handled

  • A Resend Verification Link action sits directly next to an unverified address in the administrator view

  • Verification is triggered automatically when an administrator creates a candidate account or adds or changes a candidate's primary email address

  • For a new account, the Register button on the candidate profile stays disabled until the primary email address is verified

CSM-Enabled: Email verification is controlled by a system-level setting and activated per rollout plan. Contact your CSM to coordinate timing, including how existing accounts are treated.

šŸ–„ļø Test Delivery & Proctoring

Outdated Lockdown Browser Blocked at Launch

Candidates can no longer start a Sentinel-enabled exam using an out-of-date version of the lockdown browser, so every session runs against current security behavior.

  • The version in use is checked when the candidate selects Launch, on both Windows and macOS

  • An outdated version blocks the launch and displays an alert explaining what is needed

  • An Update Now action in the alert closes it and begins downloading the current version immediately

  • Candidates already on the current version see no change

Relaunch Blocked After a Session Ends

A candidate whose session has been suspended, completed, or cancelled can no longer relaunch the exam from the lockdown browser launch screen. The launch screen now re-checks the registration's current status before allowing a launch, so a session that ended in the background cannot be restarted without administrator intervention.

🧠 AI & Item Writing

Expanded File Type Support in AI Sources

Authors can now upload Word and plain text documents to AI Sources alongside PDFs, widening the source material available for AI-assisted item writing.

  • Word documents up to 25 MB, plain text files up to 5 MB, and PDFs up to 100 MB are accepted, and each size limit is now maintained through administrative configuration rather than being fixed

  • Unsupported file types continue to be rejected, with an error message specific to the type that was submitted

  • The multiple item generation file picker shows a file type icon for each document, names the supported types on the button, and now reads Add from AI Sources

  • Single item generation behavior is unchanged

Processing Status for Uploaded Documents

The AI Sources file list now shows whether each uploaded document is ready to use, still being processed, or failed, so authors no longer have to guess when a document can be used for item generation.

  • Ready, Under Review, and Failed statuses are shown for each file, with hover text explaining why a file failed

  • A document that stalls during processing is now resolved automatically by a daily sweep, rather than showing Under Review indefinitely

  • Repeated submissions of the same upload no longer create duplicate entries in the file list

CSM-Enabled: AI Sources and multiple item generation are gated by feature flags and are not active by default. Contact your CSM to discuss enablement.

Fixes & Resolved Issues

Severity

Area

What Was Fixed

High

Test Delivery

Candidates launching an onsite proctored exam could be shown a message stating that the session had been suspended and could not be relaunched automatically; the condition that surfaced this message on private and onsite proctored launches has been corrected

Medium

Authentication & SSO

An administrator signing in through single sign-on could be placed into a candidate account when both accounts existed for the same person; role claims are now enforced strictly and the session is bound to the correct account

Medium

Authentication & SSO

On the account recovery code screen, the first use of Resend Code did not confirm that a new code had been sent and did not reset the 10-minute expiry, and recovery codes were not being delivered by text message
